Share your rescue story

Through Drawn Home, Laura Perrone is collecting true rescue stories connected to Stanislaus County for a portrait and storytelling project.

You don’t have to be a writer to participate. Stories are welcome from adopters, fosters, volunteers, shelter and rescue workers, advocates, transporters, and community members who have played a part in an animal’s journey.

If your story is being considered, Laura may reach out for additional details, photographs, or a short follow-up conversation.

Thank you for sharing your story and for being part of Stanislaus County’s network of animal care.

FAQs

What kinds of stories are you looking for?

Drawn Home is looking for true rescue stories that show how an animal found safety, care, connection, or home, and the people who helped along the way.

Does my story need to be connected to Stanislaus County?

Yes. The story should have a meaningful connection to Stanislaus County, though the animal’s entire rescue journey does not need to have happened here.

Does the animal need to have come through a shelter or rescue organization?

No. Stories are welcome from fosters, volunteers, shelter and rescue workers, advocates, transporters, veterinary professionals, finders, and other community members who played a meaningful role.

What happens if my story is selected?

Laura will contact you directly and work with you to develop the story and gather any additional details or images needed for the project.

Do I need to be the adopter?

No. Rescue can happen in many ways. If the story involves an animal finding safety, care, or home, it may be a fit.

Will every submitted story be featured?

No. A limited number of stories will be selected for the final project, and submitting a story does not guarantee inclusion.

What happens after I submit?

Laura will review your submission. If your story is being considered, she may reach out for additional details, photographs, or a short follow-up conversation.

The response timing will depend on how long overall story collection takes place.

Will my name, story, or photographs be shared publicly?

Selected stories may become part of the public Drawn Home project. Laura will communicate directly with selected participants about how their story, name, and photographs may be used before publication.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. There is no cost to submit a story or participate in Drawn Home.

Is Drawn Home a rescue organization or KDA project?

No. Drawn Home is an independent artist-led project by Laura Perrone. Her practice centers on capturing animals who become family through portraiture and storytelling.

It is supported through the KDA Individual Artists Fellowship and may feature stories involving local shelters, rescues, volunteers, and community members, but Laura leads the storytelling, artwork, participant communication, and creative direction.
